On 28 October 2025, the Past2Future EU project held its international meeting in St Julian’s, Malta, bringing together partners, experts, and participants from across Europe to reflect on one of the EU’s most inspiring stories of transformation — Malta’s path from island fortress to full EU membership.Hosted at the Vita Hotel, the event offered a rich and engaging program that connected Malta’s historic 2003 EU accession referendum with the country’s current role in shaping European policy. Through discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions, participants explored how EU membership has influenced Malta’s economy, culture, education, and everyday life. The event served not only as a look back at Malta’s remarkable journey but also as a forward-looking dialogue on how understanding the past can help shape a more democratic, inclusive, and resilient Europe.Participants reflected on key milestones in European integration and the importance of citizen engagement in sustaining the European project. The meeting also fostered exchanges between youth workers, educators, and civil society representatives, who shared perspectives on democracy, identity, and active citizenship.
